Imagine that your dinner table is a health insurance program. What rules do you have at your table?
You have no recent health conditions that require you to be hospitalized, have surgery or see a doctor on a regular basis. You might have had a physical exam, made a trip to an urgent care center, taken a prescription drug or be pregnant. Annual health care expenditures associated with “healthy” are assumed to be $1,000.
You might have a chronic condition like diabetes or heart disease or a one-time incident like an accident or form of cancer. You might have been hospitalized or had surgery. Annual health care expenditures associated with “unhealthy” are assumed to be $100,000.
